Ethics and Economics Challenge is a brand new program aimed at educating New England's future leaders in ethical and economic principles. The program will bring a college professor into high school classrooms, where he will pose moral questions and encourage students to use critical thinking skills to discuss great works of philosophy, economics and public policy. Your donations will provide free books for students in the program and college scholarships for select participants who complete the course.

More about the Ethics & Economics Challenge

This weekly, semester-long program introduces students to ethical questions relating to business and economic policy, such as “What are rights?” and “How do we know what justice requires?” Students learn economic principles that help them answer applied questions such as “What moral obligations do businesses have?” and “Do ‘Buy American’ programs help Americans?” At the end of the semester, students are eligible to participate in a speech competition on social or public policy, in which they can win scholarship money for college.

What Your Money Can Do

There are two schools, one public and one private, interested in piloting E&E Challenge in January 2015! In one school the class will be offered as an elective during school hours, and in the other it will be offered as an after-hours, extra-curricular activity. The pilot program will allow us to fine-tune a curriculum and a scholarship competition for each situation. With your support, we will demonstrate the program's effectiveness this term and qualify for a major grant to expand the program in the fall. To make the pilot program a success, we need your help to fund:

  • Books and materials: $2,000
  • College scholarships: $3,000
  • Operational expenses: $2,000 for promotion, website, registration, and mileage costs

We have a teacher ready to go, but books and scholarships are key in attracting students to Ethics & Economics Challenge! As a result, if donations don't reach the goal, the program will start in only one school this January. If donations exceed the campaign's goal, they will be used to continue Ethics & Economics Challenge in the fall.

Contributions are also welcomed in bitcoin or by check.
