The Norsemen Booster Club is raising funds to make improvements to the current track location that would create a new Westby Norsemen Athletic Complex for football and track and field athletes. More ...

For many years there has been discussion about moving the location of our home football games from Veterans Memorial Field to the current Westby High School track.  Roughly ten years ago the track was reconstructed, the interior was crowned, and a drainage system was installed.  The vision was that some day this would be the location of the Westby Norsemen football field.  This change will not only benefit track and football, but also allow the Veterans Memorial Field to be dedicated as a baseball-only facility.  In February 2016 the Westby School Board unanimously voted to relocate the field before the 2016 football season. The immediate goal of the Booster Club is to make as many improvements as we can to ensure the experience for both the players and the fans is as safe and enjoyable as possible.  We have an ultimate goal of making improvements to create a first-rate venue for both track and football.   This process has been broken down into phases based on priorities.

Since safety for our student athletes participating in football is the most immediate need, we have broken down this project into three phases.  Our initial goal and first phase will be to raise funds to move the goal posts, construct a new press box with a public address system, and install a new score board that may be utilized for both track and football.  During this first phase, games would be played during daylight hours, and seating would be in our currently used, smaller, portable bleachers.  In order to keep the Westby Football atmosphere alive, it is our hope that fans will be allowed into one or both of the areas beyond the end zones.  The 2015 estimate to complete this first phase is $200,000.

The second phase of this project is to install stadium lighting and upgrade the seating.  This would return football to Friday nights, and also allow for larger and later track meets.  New, elevated bleachers on the north side would improve viewing of the events and comfort for the fans. 2015 estimates for these items are $155,000 for the stadium lighting and $195,000 for the 1,000 seat bleachers.

In the years to follow, it would be ideal to widen the track to eight lanes, move and improve the field events for track, construct a new concession stand with restrooms, add visitor seating to the south side of the field, and construct a large parking lot.  In the end this will be a great facility that Norsemen athletes, students, alumni and our communities will be able to take great pride in.

Westby High School has a long history of athletic achievement.  Over the years, there have been a number of improvements that have been made to upgrade and update the Westby School District facilities.   With your support, this new athletic complex will become a venue to build on past achievements and to make memories for generations to come.
