A little about Fang Thai and our values:

We produce raw materials for the paper industry, as well as hand-made finished goods from Thai rice straw, or 'Fang Thai'.
We truly believe we can drive sustainable socio-economic and environmental change with our products

Deforestation is not the only issue within paper making, but the process itself is polluting all aspects of our environment - water, air, and soil - as harmful chemicals used in production cause paper waste to release methane gas while decomposing. We’ve taken great care in optimizing the mechanical pulping method to produce pulp that is completely chemical and chlorine free. Our bioremediation pools also enable us to reuse water from the process.

We purchase our rice straw from local farms in Thailand, which would otherwise be subject to agricultural burning - setting fire to cultivated fields to prepare the land for the next crop cycle . We’re proud to provide a profitable alternative for the farms, and be part of a comprehensive approach to improving Thailand’s air quality.

We've reduced CO2 emissions by 2,176 tonnes per year, and generated 12,600,000 Thai baht in income for local communities.

Right now, we're struggling with...

• Orders: Post Covid-19, Thailand's economy is still suffering - what this means is that a lot of our previous customers, many of which are small-scale businesses, aren't doing as well in sales, and therefore ordering less packaging goods from us. We are still getting enquiries from larger firms, but a lot of the time we're unable to produce the volume of products they require, so in the end, these large orders cannot be fulfilled.
• Machinery: We've invested in certain equipment to increase output, but the machinery available on the market does not account for the specificities of a completely chemical free process, and the particularity of rice straw pulp, as it is a raw material that is very new to the industry. We're currently tweaking and making custom adjustments to the equipment, which is a complex task that incurs extra time and cost, especially as we are not willing to add chemicals to the process and sacrifice our environmental values.

With your help we would be able to...

• Cover the costs of getting through this process of machinery customization
• Eventually increase output capacity to fulfill larger orders, and get back to hiring our staff full-time. Our employees are from local communities where we are based (province of Lampang, Northern Thailand) - they've been with us for years and although they are understanding, it pains us greatly that our situation is affecting their livelihoods.
