RECTIFY Inc. is a new non-profit organization in Maryland focusing on Reintegration & Equitable Community Transitions Including Family and Youth. The co-founders of the organization consist of a former DPSCS Social Worker and individuals with decades of lived experiences inside the Maryland Correctional System. We have set out with a mission to provide PROPER re-entry services to the men and women returning to the community from incarceration.
RECTIFY Inc. sees the harm that mass incarceration has caused our communities, families, and individuals. We seek to rectify these harms and help provide a platform for our men and women to return home and for our communities to begin to heal. Our model is based on a centralized Community Center and Re-Entry Housing Program. Here we seek to provide individualized apartment and shared suite style housing for returning citizens. Residents will also be provided individualized skill based supports to include: cooking classes, financial education, socialization, family mediation, relationship building, technology classes, transportation and community navigation, etc. Residents will be paired with a personal Peer Specialist who will help each resident build an individualized skill building plan and provide vital support throughout the process. The heart of this building will hold our Community Center Cafe. Here we will be able to provide workforce training in culinary arts, customer service, retail management, barista skill certification, event planning, Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Training, etc. Residents will be able to access rapid employment opportunities upon release and quickly build a resume to assist them on to their next career adventures. Our Workforce Development Partners will also be able to provide opportunities for training in welding, electrician, CDL, CNA, GNA, forklift, coding, entrepreneurship, GED testing and connections to higher education, etc. The Community Center Cafe will also serve as our community outreach, networking, and revitalization space. The Cafe will highlight local artists, sell local crafts, and hold local performances and meetings. The community will be invited each time one of our new residents is welcomed home and returned to the community in celebration. In addition to workforce development opportunities and peer support, all residents will be provided opportunities for in house or referral to substance use treatment and mental health treatment as needed. RECTIFY Inc. will also operate a 24/7 Criminal Justice Peer Specialist Hotline. Any member of the community as well as referral resources can call the hotline and be connected directly to a Peer Specialist who has been trained specifically to connect individuals to re-entry and criminal justice resources. RECTIFY Inc. is hoping to model the this hotline after the Pre-Trial Peer Connection located in Denver, Co and be able to partner with local detention centers and DPSCS so that men and women inside the correctional setting can call access the Peer Services Hotline through the institutional phone system.
Not only are we focused on those who are returning to the community but RECTIFY Inc. seeks to prevent the incarceration and loss of members of our communities to the jail and prison system. RECTIFY Inc. has a specialized Juvenile and Adult Diversion Unit focused on reducing the numbers of men and women who end up in the revolving door of incarceration. The RECTIFY Diversion Program highlights two pathways. The first pathway, Men & Women in Transition Towards Success (M&WITTS) focuses on pro-social decision making, healthy relationships, and identifying personal responsibility, while also instilling the individual in the community. The second pathway Project Phoenix is an 18 month intensive program that incorporates individual trauma therapy, restorative justice sessions with victims/ community members/ family, identification of anti-social behaviors, and individual peer support. Both Diversion Programs can be augmented with connection to the Workforce Development Program and support through the Community Center Café.
RECTIFY Inc.'s long term goal is to reduce the impact of trauma seen throughout Maryland. We have long seen the impact of trauma throughout generations in our diverse Maryland communities. RECTIFY Inc. believes that trauma has been the true gateway cause to the widespread pain witnessed and the direct link to the criminal justice system. Our dream is for Maryland to become the first Trauma Informed Criminal Justice System that has the capacity to address the trauma of our communities in order to prevent crime, trauma of any victims involved in the system who have long been ignored, and the compounded trauma of the offenders that likely has added to the occurrence of the incidence.
Please consider donating to our organization so that we may begin to offer services and programs ahead of schedule.
Thank you for letting us share a bit about who we are and the exciting thing we hope to bring to Maryland within the next year. We would love your support and to learn more about you and how our organization might better support you and your community.
