We are asking for donations for the Living AIDS Memorial Garden Upgrade Project. The project is our recommitment of our mission to establish and maintain a garden in memory of those who have died of AIDS, and to provide a place of reflection for those who are living with AIDS, and for those who are survivors.
The centerpiece of the upgrade project is the "Red Ribbon" sculpture. See picture above. The red ribbon is the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness. The metal sculpture was installed in the garden in March 2022. The noted sculptor of the "Red Ribbon" is Jeff Fetty of Spencer, West Virginia.
The other elements of the upgrade project are the following: the repair and renovations of the wood tables and benches, the installation of new signs, the installation of new wrought iron fencing at the back of the garden, the installation of sod, the installation of exterior lights to illuminate the sculpture, the installation of a new plaque for the sculpture and the installation of new speakers and sound system.
Funds have been raised from a previous fundraiser program to pay for the sculpture, sculpture pedestal/base and for trimming the middle shade tree of the lower branches. The City of Charleston helped fund the sculpture pedestal/base. The City of Charleston also helped in the installation of the sculpture.
