Hi! We're the North Down Red Squirrel and Pine Marten Group, a group of local volunteers that are dedicated to reversing the decline of red squirrels and pine marten across local woods and to ensuring that better years lie ahead for these wonderful species. 

Thanks to the commitment of our local members we have already seen a reversal in the fortunes of red squirrels in some woods such as Cairn Wood and are working to reestablish them in other woods nearby. We have identified a number of pine marten populations across north Down and are working to ensure their continued survival by erecting pine marten boxes, preventing pine marten persecution and rehabilitating injured pine marten found on the road side.

Every morning and evening our teams are in the woods checking camera traps, dispatching grey squirrels, topping up feeders and monitoring pine marten dreys but we need your help. 

Unfortunately we often see equipment being destroyed and getting stolen and this is expensive to replace. In addition we always need feed to ensure that the small population of red squirrels and pine marten that remain are sufficiently fed to help them bring in future generations. 

We need around £2,500 annually to help meet our annual objectives, any money that you are able to provide will be spent on red squirrel monitoring equipment, feeding boxes and homes in the form of squirrel drey boxes or pine marten nest boxes.
