In 2011 Nisa was diagnosed with a huge tumour on the brain at the age of 7.

After nine months of chemotherapy and many interventions her condition was stabilised enough for her to leave hospital.

Life has never been easy for Nisa or her family. Her illness has required many further spells in hospital and constant support. She cannot walk independently and has some hearing loss.  However, she has managed to attend special school and gives great joy to her family.

Finance has always been a constant burden for the family, limited in their ability to work and challenged by the need to maintain a home in distant Antalya where she is in frequent need of specialist medical services, which is why our Kalkan Community Swimmers raised €4000 for them in 2012.

Now a new challenge in the shape of a major cancer in the groin has arisen. The cancer may be inoperable but father Hakkı is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to find a solution for his beloved Nisa. Whist holding down his job as chef at locally renowned Fener Restaurant, he is travelling to all corners of Turkey to try and find the surgeon who can perform this very difficult operation.

Meanwhile costs rack up threatening to overwhelm this hard working and devoted family.

Friends of Kalkan there is always hope and Hakkı is a determined man. Are we going to let them struggle alone?  A little assistance (a message of support, a donation and sharing this page) can make this another positive story for our small town and for humankind.
