For nearly 30 years, Los Cenzontles has been a source of cultural education and community for local youth and their families. Each year, our academy trains children and teens from our community in the beautiful, and sometimes neglected, Mexican cultural and artistic traditions. Youth group members are primarily from immigrant and second-generation Mexican American families -- a severely under-served population. Our latest generation recently recorded lively and heartfelt renditions of classic canciones rancheras , and sones Jarochos y arribeños de Michoacan y Jalisco . In addition to preserving these valuable traditions, the recording process provides our young people invaluable and life-long skills of problem solving, leadership, teamwork and confidence. Our families and community take pride in the final product - a memento for a lifetime! Funds received will be used to pay for the production and manufacture of the CD.
