Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton hasn't added a story.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to work with, and on behalf of, criminalized women and girls and those at risk. We do this by providing advocacy, support, programs, services and a residenial facility.
Fliss Cramman moved to Canada with her family when she was 8 years old. Fliss was taken into the care of the Children's Aid Society at the age of 11 and remained in their care until the age of 16. There were no adults in Fliss's childhood or youth who sought citizenship on her behalf and she was unaware that she could seek citizenship as an adult, consequently she remained a permanent resident.
In 2015, Fliss became criminalized and is now at risk of being deported. Sadly, she has been under hospital care since August for a perforated bowel. Fliss's doctor feels that she needs at least 18 months to recover in Canada.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton has accepted Fliss for residency at our community based residential facility. Our facility will provide a safe, secure and supportive atmosphere for Fliss to deal with legal issues, immigration issues and to heal. Unfortunately, Fliss cannot be released to our facility until there is a guarantee that her medical expenses can be paid. Currently Fliss's medical expenses are approximately $1000.00 a month.
Fliss has no MSI to cover her basic medical expenses and no income; We are reaching out to the community to raise enough money to pay for Fliss's medical equipment while residing at our facility. Similarly, we are seeking your help to pursue a Humanitarian and Compassionate Application. The money raised will assist with the filing fees associated with a Humanitarian and Compassionate Application. A successful application will allow Fliss to live her life in Canada. Our goal is to raise $5000.00 for Fliss's medical equipment and Humanitarian and Compassionate Application.
Please see the links below for more information on Fliss's story. We cannot do this without your help, any small amount helps!
