Friends to the Forlorn Inc hasn't added a story.
Red is a beautiful girl who came to us in August 2013 after she and two other dogs, Meatball & Billy Blue, were found abandoned in the backyard of a home in Cabbagetown. The couple who found the dogs contacted us for help and agreed to foster the dogs. Of the three, Red was in the worst shape. She was very sweet but shy and had rough spots on her skin from lying in the dirt for so long. She was emaciated, had obviously been used for breeding and was heartworm positive. After getting some weight on her, Red underwent heartworm treatment and spayed. She has spent the last few months waiting for her forever home and snuggling with her brother, Meatball.
On Monday (May 12th), Jason received a call that something was
wrong - Red became paralyzed in her back end while playing in the
yard. She didn't appear to be in pain but could not walk or move. She
was immediately taken to GVS for examination. They determined she had
two ruptured disks in her spine and underwent surgery that evening.
While operation, the surgeon also discovered a blood clot between the
two disks.
As of Tuesday morning, Red was alert and able to eat a little.
She could feel some sensation in her feet but was still unable to use
the bathroom on her own. She is on IV fluids and medication and
resting at GVS where she is being very well cared for as she
recovers.
The medical bill for Red is estimated to be $8000,
including tests, surgery, medications, after care and therapy. Please
consider donating to help us with these costs; every little bit helps!
