Queen's Park Elementrary hasn't added a story.
We are in the fourth year of implementing the Stephen Covey Leader In Me and 7 Habits program. When we first embarked on this journey, we were introduced to the concept by our then principal after he read the book "Leader In Me". As the principal and staff looked into the process they realized it was exceptionally expensive and was something the school could never consider funding through its own budget or from the Parent Advisory Council. However, it was a program that had an incredible amount of promise. As such, the staff embarked on a book study and received a simple training day from the Covey Institute. Knowing that that was the only training that the school would be able to afford, the staff still decided to implement the program the best they could on their own. It was their belief at the time that any work the students did with the habits would be beneficial. Over the first four years, we were pleased with our efforts and the students’ progress. At the end of last year we were even able to host a “Leader In Me” conference during a school day that had over one hundred teachers from other schools in attendance.
The conference was a success but what we realized was that we had a fairly solid foundation , however, there were a few gaps and we were not able to get our students to absorb the Twenty First century skill set as deeply as they could with actual training from the Covey institute. We had done a great job learning on our own but it just wasn’t as deep or powerful as we had seen implemented in other schools that had gone through the proper training. Another issue that has come to our attention is the fact that most of the teachers who were trained at the start are no longer with the school.
We are now at the point where we are so encouraged by the improvement we have seen in our students we won’t give up in continuing to implement the program and look for further funding to support the growth we desire to see in our training and the student’s improvement. Any support you are willing and able to give us is a step in an extremely positive direction.
Working with Franklin-Covey, a world leader in building leadership we have adopted The Leader In Me Program as a school wide intiative/culture to build strong 21st century skills in kids. 2,000 employers from 24 countries when asked said these skills were needed in the forthcoming workforce

We are seeking $10,000 of $25,000 for the 2015/16 school year for initial training that will enable us to have deaper inpact.
The yearly cost $10,000 for the following year with about a $6000 for each consecutive year after.
A student population of about 220 student means that the cost would be about $91 per student for the 2015/16 year and about $45 for the following year with a yearly average of about $25 per student thereafter.
