Their Story-  In 2000, when Mary began work at the Madison County Shelter, she was surpised and saddened by the euthanasia rate. Mary helpped by bringing home a few cats at a time to place in area homes and this grew into what is now MaryPaws. Marypaws is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina in a "kitty cottage" at the home of Mary and Clark Floyd. MaryPaws became incorporated in 2005 and is a 501c3.

My Story- My fiancee and I had decided to get a second cat to befriend our wonderful "Desmond". I began the search at a few local shelters and just couldn't find "the one". I had heard of Mary Paws from a Google search and decided to make the trip. I called and was warmly invited to come have a look at the selection of cats. The mountains were still quite covered in snow and upon arriving Mary's husband Clark was waiting to give me a drive up the icy mountain! As we pulled into the driveway my eyes were filled with the sight of cats! Cats were everywhere; warming up in the patches of sunlight, perched on stacks of wood, roaming about or playing with a passing leaf. Mary kindly greeted me and welcomed me inside the small antique log cabin where still more cats were sleeping and lazing about. I was overwhelmed by everything I saw. When we entered the adoption center all the cats greeted me with wide eyes, hoping today would be their lucky day! As soon as I saw "Josie" a brown and yellow tabby, I fell in love. I knew she was the one. I made my decision and while filing the papers, (with some dificulty as I made a new friend, "Snow Boy" a giant white cat that decided papers could wait and petting should commence NOW.) Mary told me that she has so many cats because the ones that don't get adopted become permanent members of the family. I was touched by her kindness and the whole time I was there I just couldn't believe that such selflessness still existed. Mary and her husband give so much to these cats and sacrifice even their own comfort to make sure the cats are happy and healthy. The shelter is certainly always in need of items! Food, liter, medicine, cleaning products, toys, you name it! Please help me help this wonderful outreach as this sweet couple does everything they can to see even just one cat find a forever home. If you can't donate, consider adopting! Thank you for reading and taking time to support a local shelter! Clark and Mary appreciate anything that you can do!
