We got some discouraging news from the vet today regarding Danika: Heidi, her foster Mom, brought her in for what should have been a routine spay, when Dr. Freng discovered a heart murmur prior to sedation. Doc cannot sedate a dog with heart issues because they can die while under-- its very dangerous. Following protocols Dr.Freng (Josh) asked me to run a series of tests, including X-ray, which we did. The X-rays revealed that Danika has a VERY large heart, which will require further diagnosis, including testing with a EKG and consultation with a Cardiologist. We've got her on meds for the time being and will put together a game plan to get her down to see a Heart Specialist. She is not old, just 4 or 5, and has plenty of life left to live. This condition may have been the reason that she was "let go", "released" or just "unclaimed" but we won't let it affect our resolve when it comes to doing everything in our power to make sure that she sees the best Cardiologist around and receives whatever treatment will extend her life. Cardiologists, as you probably can imagine, are very expensive and the treatment will be costly as well. I'm going to pitch this case to a friend of mine over at VCA Specialty Vet Hospitals and see if he can help, but we will obviously need your help as well. PLease do what you can to help us help Danika!
