Lisa Rossi, Room 201, 2nd Grade Superhero

Ms. Rossi rocks the second grade, inspiring girls to be leaders, everyone to be allies, and helping all her students find their inner artist. Let’s set her and her students up for a great year in 2021/22!

“I use my PTA classroom funds for the Room 201 Women’s History Museum. Every spring, my students transform the classroom into a Women's History Museum. We start with a biography exploration using fabulous picture books and chapter books bought by PTA funds, and then do research and writing reports on inspirational women who showcase ambition, persistence, confidence, and pride. The students also design a poster board to showcase in the museum, where they act as docents to visitors. PTA funds have also supported my students’ award-winning filmmaking, including "Class Action: The Story of Sylvia Mendez," which was the catalyst for the name change of the former LeConte School, and is currently being used to advocate for Ms. Mendez's family story in California History textbooks.  When COVID restrictions end, I’m most looking forward to taking my students to the Rosie the Riveter National Monument.”

Where do the funds go?

The whole school benefits from funds raised. While we can’t earmark specific funds for classes or projects, the PTA typically commits 70% of its budget to core school programs and teachers & principal support. Does your child love PE with Mr Cohn, going on field trips, or art projects created by MOCHA? All of these things are supported by the PTA. The money we raise also goes toward teachers professional development, project supplies, classroom equipment, special projects and more.
