Many have requested if it is possible for me to go back and save more, and/or what can be done to save more.  I would love to go back one last time and save a handful more, maybe some silkies this time.

Something of note: Silkie meat and bones are considered to have magical healing properties in eastern culture, and more recently western/American culture has begun to warm up to the notion of preferring silkie flesh.

A breakdown of some $ amounts:

$12- price of young baby Silkie

$12- price of one young red hen or baby cornish cross (white)

$10-  Price of an "old red hen" (hens that have slowed down egg laying and thus considered "worthless" to keep)

$500  Price to build a short term, small enclosure to house a small amount of rescues

$1700-  Price to build an enclosure to house the saved birds

Note:  Without getting too political, I would like to add that while this pracice may be very dsturbing to many of us, it is not illegal, and is also not very different from what goes on en masse in any factory farm every day.  There are live poultry markets across the US that do this every day.
