The Idea

It’s an unspoken rule, a measuring stick if you will; by the time you are in your 30s you will be happily married with 2.5 kids, a house, and a successful career. In the matter of weeks, J finds himself with none of these. A single chubby gay man in his late 30’s trying to start all over again. With the help of his three best friends, they approach life with the realization that everything they thought they knew is all a sham. While waiting to feel “grown-up” they discover that it is a never ending process in which we are never quite there. In a community with a small town feel that really wants to be a city, surrounded by people struggling to be someone else, we are all almost what we think we should be………..almost…..NOT quite!

A Bit of Back Story  

This idea for a sitcom was born out of a big upheaval in my own life, A way for me to sift through all of the rubble and try to make sense of it.  I believe in laughter, in art, in entertainment. I believe that I have two choices when dealing with the sometimes challenging circumstances that life can place upon me, I can either stay in the dark bitter ooze it can create that threatens to drown me OR I can choose to use it to create, to laugh, to connect with others.  It is my opinion that destruction only begets destruction, but in creation lies life, the building up of something new. 

So picture it: A distraught (but devastatingly handsome) chubby gay man, pillow clasped tight to his chest, tears cascading down his cherub cheeks (oh yes it was very dramatic) sitting with my best friends all discussing how none of us were where we thought we would be at this point in our lives.  As we sat there we realized that in each of us had been instilled this notion that we were required to have accomplished very specific things at specific intervals of life, but where had that come from and why did we so easily buy into it? Through our stumblings in our lives, as we shared and supported and loved each other through it all, we realized two very important rules for living. 1.) There truly are NO rules and 2.) what mattered most were the people we kept around us.  

So I began to write.....about everything.  I shared the awkward stories of dating again with my friends, I laughed at the rediculouness of going from a 3000 square foot house to a small 800 square foot shanty complete with mice and cave crickets (as creepy as they sound). I laughed and shared and healed.  Then I did what I do best, I dreamed.

Why Believe in THIS Guy?

I have been creating since I was a child; music, plays, film.  I have produced and recorded an independent album at 17 called "One From the Heart", I toured state fairs and churches and coffee shops.  I started a non-profit organization called "SHYNE" that battled prejudice and discrimination through the use of the arts.  We put on "The Concert For a Hate Free World"  a completely volunteer driven stage production with choir and orchestra and even an opening interactive film put on at The Wenatchee Convention Center.  I have acted and directed in theatres since I was 9 and produced a short film for the Barebones Film Festival in Muskogee, OK.  I've been asked, "How have you done all this stuff?" My answer is always "because I didn't know I couldn't" I don't believe in "impossible" or in waiting for someone else to offer me my dreams.  I believe in pushing forward and trusting that the way will be revealed if I only I make that first step.  So here we go!

Jumping In

We have only just begun and so far have been met with wonderful businesses and organizations who have offered us locations to shoot, we have announced auditions for this awesome ensemble cast to be held at a local theatre, with support from talent agencies and theatres alike.  And now we launch this campaign to fund a small budget that will give us lighting, quality sound, editing software, and all the miscellaneous equipment and incidentals that go into navigating a successful production.  I believe greatly in this project and it's ability to create a little spark of magic for everyone involved......and i sure hope that will include you.  Dreams can come true and together we can make them more than we ever imagined!
