Who we are
-
Doña Coty.
Mrs Coty, also known as Doña Coty, is the president of this non-profit that has been caring for and placing stray cats and dogs into new forever homes for more than 25 years. -
Shoe repairs.
Doña Coty had been using her shoe repaiment business for the las two decades to aide the stray cats and dogs of the city of Colima. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic the business was hit hard. Clients were scarce, providers halted operations, the rent and other bills were pilling up and the authorities don't care for small businesses like hers. -
The eviction.
Disaster stroke again on September 19, 2022 as a magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the city. The house where Mrs Coty and her 4-legged refugees were living, was greatly damaged. To top it all off, the landlord gave her an eviction notice. Coty and the dogs moved out of that house and into an empty plot of land not too far away on July 2023. -
The eviction returns
We also got an eviction notice from the landlady of the empty plot of land. Even though we were paying rent on time, she (the landlady) was harassing Mrs. Coty to leave and after a legal battle, it was decided we will need to leave by March 22nd, 2024. This is where we ask for everyone's support. We don't have much time left to build up the new shelter. So we kindly ask for your support to finish the new shelter and don't have the authorities release all the sheltered animals back into the streets.

- How many animals do we have sheltered?
As of February 2024, we have about 30 cats 🐈, about 97 dogs 🐕 and exactly 1 green turtle 🐢.
- What do they eat?
🐕 The dogs eat about 35kg (77.16lbs) of dry food a day and about 10
cans of wet food a day.
🐈 The cats eat about 4kg (8.8lbs) of dry
food every day and use about 10kg (22 lbs) of cat litter.
🐢 The
turtle has some dry pellets, doesn't eat much a day.
- How many are in the team?
We are currently 3 permanent members, the president Mrs Coty, the manager Diana, the treasury manager Germán, and 1 paid half-time employee.
- Do we have other streams of income?
Yes, we do. We sell used clothes people have kindly donated via Facebook and on public spaces, we do raffles every 2 weeks, we sell pastries for human and animal consumption. And of course, we have donations.
- Are the donations tax deductible?
Not yet, we are still in the process of finishing all the paperwork necessary with the SAT (Mexican equivalent of the IRS). As soon as we are done with the SAT, we will research a way to be tax deductible for people and companies outside of Mexico.
- Can anyone visit the shelter?
We always have our doors open for anyone who wants to help. For anyone who donates at least 1 USD we will make a video call (Whatsapp, Facebook, zoom) for a minute to interact with one or more of the animals in the shelter. You can choose the species.
- Do you only take cash?
No, we also accept donations in-kind. You can check our Amazon wishlist for all the items we are in need of.
