About the Fairhaven Foundation
The Fairhaven Foundation began in 1997 when a group of volunteers began working to increase the quality of life for Fairhaven’s residents.Over the years, our Foundation has been able to provide numerous items to Fairhaven. Below is a highlighted list of assistance that the Foundation has been pleased to provide:
- Electric beds
- Lifts for resident care
- Ultrasound machines and other Physiotherapy equipment
- Funding to enhance activities and outings through Resident Programs
- Water features for both of the outdoor garden areas
The Foundation continues to dedicate itself to enhancing and supporting quality living for all people at Fairhaven.
About our Campaign
Long-term care homes utilize a large variety of capital equipment required to meet resident needs. Medical instruments such as vital-signs machines and blood pressure cuffs, to safety mechanisms such as wander guards and building automation systems, all help to ensure the comfort and safety of residents and staff alike.
While designed to meet and exceed the highest standards, Fairhaven is first and foremost a home. In addition to the aforementioned medical and safety equipment, furnishings for resident rooms, such as mattresses and bedside tables, also need to be replaced from time to time.
As the number of Canadians requiring long-term care is on the rise, government funding does not completely cover the cost of necessary equipment or enhancements to our Home. The acquisition, maintenance, and repair of such equipment are essential in providing the high quality of care that Fairhaven is known for.
This is the third year that Kenn has taken to the water! On Thursday, July 30, 2015 Kenn stayed up for 32 seconds! Kenn's amazing feat can be seen on Fairhaven's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCalzvhGJKx5ibfBhEDhxTMg
About Kenn "Danger" Grainger:
Kenn is a champion among champions. He knows how to enjoy life to the fullest, encourages progress and welcomes change. Kenn is an advocate for Fairhaven and the community, as well as a very patriotic individual that continues to display the Canadian flag in his home. His greatest reward is the positive impression he leaves on everyone he meets.
Kenn lost 99% of his eyesight 21 years ago. He still enjoys a very active lifestyle and can be quoted as saying “I am 88 but feel like I am 50”! Kenn has acquired many accolades including an induction into Peterborough’s “Pathway of Fame.” He is passionate about teaching future generations the true values of humanity: attitude, respect, determination, cooperation, perseverance, courage, empathy and sharing. interestingly, he has 50 years of volunteer experience in the city of Peterborough!
Kenn has donated his time and wisdom to many worthy causes over the years including speaking at many local schools. This is the third year Kenn is taking to the water! The first year he water-skiid because it was on his bucket list. Last year, in 2014, he decided to raise pledges in order to purchase two vital-signs machines. This year, we hope to raise $25,000 to purchase equipment and enhancements for the Fairhaven Home.
