We need your help! The Long Beach NY Jewish community has been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. This vibrant Jewish community on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, which had grown into a “Beacon” for the revival of Jewish life on Long Island, has been decimated. Long Beach’s spiritual growth over the past five years has been incredible. Under the leadership of Rabbi Eli and Beila Goodman and community leaders, The Bach Jewish Center (Bachurei Chemed) has become the focal center for Jewish life both for the community and for hundreds of unaffiliated families and individuals who come there for spiritual growth and guidance. On the High Holidays, the BACH hosted the largest service on Long Island open to all with over 600 attending. The city of Long Beach, NY sustained enormous and widespread damage during Hurricane Sandy, the scope of which is unprecedented! The boardwalk destroyed, homes and business establishments decimated. Basic relief has been mobilized for the residents of Long Beach, with Organizations coming together to bring food, water, and shelter to the inhabitants. Sadly Rabbi Eli and Beila Goodman’s home was totally destroyed, they and their children displaced, their belongings were lost and the historic BACH synagogue was very severely damaged. Everyone in the community has suffered tremendous property and financial loss, and the BACH needs to be there for them. We humbly ask you, our beloved Jewish brothers and sisters, to help restore the Soul of the Long Beach Jewish community and allow Rabbi Goodman and the BACH to once again rebuild and continue their incredible work. We need to buy furniture, appliances, books and clothing for the Goodman family and start rebuilding their lives as well as rebuilding the water filled bottom floors of the BACH Synagogue. The work includes structural repairs, commercial kitchen appliances, storage for the things we can salvage, furniture, tables and chairs for our programs, computers, file cabinets, and toys among many other things. In addition, hundreds of Long Beach residents are reaching out to the BACH for aid in order to help them rebuild their lives. We have initiated a 1 million dollar campaign to rebuild. Many have asked how they can help at this crucial time in Jewish history. This is YOUR opportunity to have a personal stake in the future of Jewish life and outreach in Long Beach and Long Island. We need your help. The funds will go to: rebuilding the Goodman’s home, restoring the BACH synagogue, and helping those in the community with critical financial support.
