Help Bring Clean, Filtered Water to a Small Village in Peru
Our Goal: Raise $7,500 for materials, equipment and filters to rebuild the water supply for a small Peruvian Amazon village.
The several hundred residents of the small village of San Salvador, near Pucallpa, Peru, desperately need funds to purchase and install a new water supply and purification system. Filtered water will reduce the harmful effects village residents, young and old, suffer from old piping, tanks and inadequate filtration. In addition to parasites in the water, such as Giardia, Salmonella, and E-Coli, the village water supply has high levels of calcium and other minerals which can lead to kidney stones and other, including potentially fatal, illnesses.
This is the system being replaced with proper piping, tanks and
water filtration.
Use of Funds: Our volunteers travel to the village of San Salvador area often and will directly assist and help the villagers purchase, install, and checkout their new water filtration system. The money raised by this campaign goes directly to benefit villagers with water supply improvements. Your generous financial support will have a DIRECT and MEANINGFUL impact on the lives of people residing in the village of San Salvador.

Background: The nonprofit Juinti Koshi was created to pursue projects that can benefit the indigenous Shipibo communities in the Peruvian Amazon. This specific project seeks $7,500 to help the residents of San Salvador with a water well renovation project. Ompash means water in the Shipibo language. The water tower in the small village of San Salvador, near Pucallpa, is corroding and is at risk of falling if it's not repaired soon. On top of that, another big problem this community is facing is that the water tank that supplies the entire village with drinking water is oxidizing and the water is no longer pure or safe to drink. Funds from this drive will be used by our volunteers to directly help and assist the villagers to purchase and install a new water supply and purification system. Filtered water will reduce the harmful effects residents in the village suffer from inadequate filtration. A short video from the village about the community and the need for a new water supply is here in the project photo gallery, above.
Many Shipibo communities are under threat from external social, economic and corporate interests. Due to lack of local resources, the challenges of self-sufficiency and impinging modern pressures, Village and tribal communities often accept help without full realization of the consequences, intentional or not. Juinto Koshi seeks to empower and fortify indigenous communities by providing viable resources, such as access to clean water and medical facilities. This serves to foster the preservation of the Shipibo culture and protect the Amazon rainforest.
