We are entering into a unique situation where the elected candidate will have approximately 16 months to implement their plans and produce results until the next mayoral election in October of 2017. It’s easy to say one will “address” the concerns that our communities face, but I have a plan to implement solutions for these issues. These goals are measurable and attainable. They will set precedence for the next 3 year term. I live here. This is our home and I’m here to stay!

"Bringing Faith and Trust back into our Home Rule Government"

Assessment of Current Contract Processes:
We need to assess the current contract processes. Multimillion dollar contracts are currently being awarded left and right, with the assumption that just because the Assembly approved the capital budget, it’s okay to grant large contracts without the Assembly’s approval. This conflicts with the North Slope Borough Charter and we will correct this process during the time of my administration.

Reform and Enhance the Personnel Policies of the NSB:
We will implement changes to refine the provisions of the personnel policies. Understanding that we have concerns regarding nepotism and the lack of confidence in our policies, implementing an “Office of the Ombudsman” which will allow residents and the NSB employees to have a voice while keeping mayoral appointed positions accountable.

Improve the Quality of Life, Safety and Health:
Our leadership will bring stability with the relationship between Public Safety, the Alaska Court System and the Federal Bureau of Investigation so that our people’s voices are heard! We will lobby for and support stiffer sentencing for convicted drug dealers and violent offenders. Serious crimes and unresolved cases cannot be taken lightly! We understand the need for proper support services for individuals who are struggling with drug and alcohol use and we will begin implementing a plan to create Drug & Alcohol Treatment Facilities that’s culturally relevant to give our people an opportunity to transition back into our local communities. Our administration will strengthen the police force and provide them with the leadership and tools needed to do their jobs effectively.

Sustaining Water & Sewer Services Slope Wide:
We have several communities which are struggling with their water and sewer services. Houses are being flooded with sewage on a routine basis. Households are being forced to use honey buckets again while services freeze up year after year. We are spending millions of dollars annually in the same communities on digging up failed lines, repairing them and waiting for the next blowout. This is unsustainable and unacceptable. It’s time to give the villages ownership. The villages know their community and they know the type of system that works for them. We will work with them closely to assist in creating realistic solutions.

Housing Solutions:
The housing crisis is an ongoing issue with multiple generations living under one roof due to the lack of affordable housing. The current administration has identified approximately $26M to combat this issue, however we have not seen a plan on how these monies will be utilized. We understand that it is important to work with the local stakeholders in each community to resolve the ongoing housing dilemma. It’s time to start building again.

Moving forward to achieve measurable accomplishments for our Borough will require unifying and coordination with the Tribal Governments, City Governments and the Corporations to get this agenda begun in the limited time we have. We as residents of the North Slope Borough all have to step up if want to see improvements in our way of life and preserve our culture. We as residents need to take a stand and move forward. It’s time to get started! We are respectfully requesting your support and your vote on June 7, 2016.
