Canine Adoption and Rescue League is an all-breeds, no-kill dog rescue and sanctuary located in Santa Paula, California. Since 1996, C.A.R.L. has rescued and placed thousands of unwanted, sick, abandoned, and homeless dogs. At any given moment, nearly one hundred dogs are housed by C.A.R.L. at our sanctuary in Santa Paula, or in carefully selected foster homes. We make a lifetime commitment to all our animals.

Tess and The Evidence Dogs

In 2011, the police raided a home in El Rio, CA, where about two dozen dogs were kept in horrifying conditions. There was evidence of fighting, neglect, and terrible cruelty. After the police investigation, the "Evidence Dogs", so-called because they were literally held to be used as evidence during the case, were set to be euthanized. The official evaluation was that the dogs were "unadoptable" and too dangerous to live. C.A.R.L. and another rescue stepped in at this point and took over the care of the Evidence Dogs. Tess is one of them.

Rehabilitation
It has taken several years and countless hours of hard work and tireless love, but we have at last made strides in helping Tess overcome her past. Volunteers have worked with her daily over the past several months under the guidance of professional dog behaviorist Diana Edwards The K-9 Behavior Savior, and it is working. She has shed so much of her fear and defensiveness towards other dogs, and is becoming the lovable, playful, happy companion she was always meant to be. She LOVES to play ball!!!

Another Setback
And then just recently, she was diagnosed with cancer. It is heartbreaking to think that this happened just as Tess is finally breaking free of her past abuse. The good news is that it is highly treatable! Please help C.A.R.L. pay for Tess' surgery and recovery. Her life is worth saving.
