Funeral service for Arthur L. Gibson, Jr. "Gip", 66, will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Kenneth Goins will officiate. Burial will be in Combre Cemetery under the direction of Fondel Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be at 9AM in the church.
Mr. Gibson died on Thursday, December 4, 2014, 10:38PM at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Born in Alexandria, LA he lived in Lake Charles, LA most of his life. He was a member of Redemption Tabernacle. He attended W. O. Boston High School before going into the United States Army on June 28, 1968. He bravely served in the Vietnam War until January 16, 1968, being honorably discharged to return home to his loving family.
In 1969 Arthur met and married the late Lucille Smith of Westlake, LA. In 1975 he began working for the Lake Charles Stevedores ILA Local 1180 which later merged with the ILA Local Chapter 2047. He worked until his retirement after thirty-seven years of service.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of twenty-eight years Martha Brignac Gibson; seven daughters: Stephanie Gibson, Tasha Brignac, Christie Brignac, Ebony Gibson, Ebonica Brignac, Kimberly Gibson and Whitney Banks; two sons: Arthur L.Gibson, Jr., John Brignac; one sister: Willie Mae Gibson; four brothers: Larry Gibson, Mark Gibson, Darrell Gibson and Kevin Gibson; twenty-eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Clorinza Gibson; two sisters: Lizzie M. Gibson and Velma G. Proctor.
