Dog4U, Inc. hasn't added a story.
On a rainy afternoon one of the Dog4U, Inc. volunteer drove down a rural country road. In a panic she hit the breaks hard. She almost missed the little life (it was so very small) in the middle of the road. There was a car coming the opposite direction and it made no effort to slow down, without thinking twice the volunteer stopped in her lane, opened her door and stood out in the street waving, motioning for the car to slow down pointing to the little 4 pound puppy in the road - Lit'l pin. She left her car and went to pick up the very tiny, starved Min Pin/Chihuahua mix. She did not seem afraid of her resuer and came instantly her. She was so hungry and when she saw that the volunteer had no food to offer she ran from trash pile to trash pile along the road side. Lit’l Pin desperately tried to pry the bags open but she was so very small and had a hard time tearing in to them. The volunteer ran to her car and got the Pop Tart she had been eating (the only food available in the car). It was not much but enough to get her to come over once again and as she ate she was captured. She was obviously starving (later it was discovered she is 7 months old and only weighed in at 4 lbs). According to our vet, a female should weigh 8-9 pounds and stand 10-11" tall. As I picked her up she was shaking but relatively friendly. Our volunteer was very upset by the fact that when she looked around it was apparent that no one cared about this little dog, no one was running out to get her and the cars didn’t even slow down for her.Lit’l Pin was tucked safely inside the volunteer’s shirt and carried to the car. She called Dog4U,Inc. and said “Well, we have yet another rescued dog!” Animal Control was contacted to report the found dog. They were a bit less than helpful stating “You think anyone is going to care or going to be looking for this dog? If you want her keep her – We’ll file the report, after 72 hours she’s yours but don’t expect any calls”. We had her scanned for a microchip and of course she did not have one. Now she needs to be vetted, fed well, cared for and once she puts some weight on she will go North to our rescue partners and find a forever family that will provide the love and care that this pup deserves. The volunteer that found this frightened, shy skinny little dog will be foster Lit'l Pin for Dog4U,Inc. She will get all the attention and care that she needs until she is ready for a home.
