Animal Nation, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Sometimes when it rains it pours...and it is indeed pouring in emergency rescue cases for us this week.
Meet Mira: a 4 week old kitten who was found and then passed from person to person until someone got her to our rescue. We could tell something was wrong as she vomitted right away after eating and was very weak. Upon x-ray we discovered the top of a nipple in her abdomen. This is serious and she is having emergency surgery to remove it as we speak; any anesthetic event at her young age, in her weakened state is very, very risky. But we have no choice if we want to save her life. We area praying she makes it through this and we are praying for donations as her surgery is conservatively estimated to cost $1000 (likely more, and then there will be after care for many weeks).
Meet Flower: this 7-9 month old, 34 lb mixed breed dog (lab/chihuahua/basenji/border collie/pit? anyones guess really) was said to be found stray in Norwalk and brought to us via her finders and animal control, not using her back Left leg, with her hip "popped" out on the Left side. No owner has come forward and she is being advertised in both newspaper and online. Meanwhile x-rays were done to see why she was so painful in her left hip/leg. We quickly found out the cause....her hip is completely dislocated and she needs surgery asap. We started her on pain meds but she literally is in pain every time she moves and will not use her back left leg. The surgery she needs will be performed this week and is called an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) and the cost will be $1300-$1500. She will be available for adoption 2 weeks after this procedure is completed and her sutures are removed. She loves all people and other dogs and is absolutely sweet. We still cannot believe no one was looking for this recently spayed girl :( We will never know if someone dumped her after her injury or if she was truly lost and found by good samaritans - but that's not consequential to the fact that she needs surgery. The good news is that after her surgery, she will not be in pain and she will be able to use her leg once again.
Both of these cases came to us at a very busy time in kitten season
when we have many more lives in our care that need our attention and
funds. Unexpected yes. But both are deserving of a chance at life and
that is exactly what they will get with us.
