Honey is a 5 month old puppy with a broken back. We were contacted by the Montcalm County Animal Shelter about a dog that was paralyzed but had no physical signs of trauma (so we were told). We went to get her immediately and took her straight to our vet, Kelley's Animal Clinic. Upon x-ray it was apparent Honey had suffered a major spinal injury most likely due to being hit by a car and that her spinal cord was being compressed. While this news was devastating we had hope! Honey had feeling in her legs and while she could not move them she responded to being touched. Dr. Kelley suggested starting soft tissue laser therapy immediately and every day for a week to help alleviate the pressure her broken spine was putting on her spinal cord. Honey completed her 7th treatment Tuesday and is showing signs of improvement and is even able to stand for brief periods of time! She can move her right leg and is starting to move her left. She has to continue the laser treatments twice a week and water therapy daily to continue making progress and our hope is for her to be walking again within the next month or so. Honey is so energetic and full of life, you would never know she had suffered such a traumatic injury at first glance, but when you see her dragging her back legs along to move its painfully obvious that she has a long way to go yet for recovery but as long as there is hope we will keep doing what we can for her. We are asking for donations to continue the laser therapy treatments, they are helping her so much but are adding up quickly and getting costly. Any amount is so very appreciated and donations can be made directly to our vet as well on behalf of Saving Argo Dog Rescue, our vet is Kelley's Animal Clinic 616-453-7422. Your donations are tax deductible.
