The goal of Ban Ads For Gambling is to secure federal legislation to prevent advertisements for gambling in all media, just as such ads have been prohibited for tobacco and cannabis.
Harms from gambling include financial problems, stress to families, youth and children, mental health issues including addiction and even suicide – among other documented economic and social issues that negatively affect Canadians. Mental Health Research Canada reports that 9% of Canadians (15% youth) are afflicted with ‘problem gambling’. It is estimated that one problem gambler affects at least 7 other people (family members, friends and the broader community).
Gambling ads – in both content and frequency – are particularly enticing to adolescents and other vulnerable persons, especially those struggling with gambling addiction. Furthermore, the exhortation to gamble demeans the spirit of sport.
Your support is key to our success. We encourage you to make a
donation to our Campaign. Funds will be spent on advocacy and raising
awareness and related administrative expenses. We will be contacting
and advocating with governments at all levels, including MPs,
Senators,
MPPs, and local officials; national health, sports, and
educational organizations; and faith
groups.
Our Directors and Members of the steering committee are volunteers, and none is compensated.

L’objectif de PARIFNI—Bannir les pubs de jeu est d’obtenir une loi fédérale interdisant la publicité pour les jeux de hasard dans tous les médias, tout comme la publicité pour le tabac et le cannabis est déjà interdite.
Les méfaits liés au jeu comprennent des difficultés financières, du stress pour les familles, des impacts sur les jeunes et les enfants, des problèmes de santé mentale — y compris la dépendance et même le suicide — ainsi que d’autres conséquences économiques et sociales bien documentées qui touchent négativement les Canadiennes et les Canadiens. Selon Recherche en santé mentale Canada, 9 % de la population (et 15 % des jeunes) est touchée par le « jeu problématique ». On estime qu’une personne ayant un problème de jeu affecte au moins sept autres personnes (membres de la famille, amis et communauté élargie).
Les publicités pour les jeux de hasard — tant par leur contenu que par leur fréquence — sont particulièrement attrayantes pour les adolescents et les personnes vulnérables, notamment celles qui luttent contre une dépendance au jeu. De plus, l’incitation à jouer porte atteinte à l’esprit du sport.
