East Point Peace Academy hasn't added a story.
"We recognize and acknowledge that the flow of financial resources in our society
has been and still is violently shaped by white supremacy, patriarchy and colonization.
We actively work to repair this through directing the flow of resources toward
network members and other communities that have been and are still being extracted from."
The FVN Handbook: The Principles & Practices of the Fierce Vulnerability Network, page 151
The Bay Area FVN Internal Reparations Fund is a fund of reparations offerings from white-identifying (and occasionally other) folks, used to offset needs-based costs of BIPOC participants who would otherwise not be able to attend Fierce Vulnerability Network (FVN) events and offerings.
(What is the Fierce Vulnerability Network? The Fierce Vulnerability Network is a constellation of direct action teams positioned at the intersection of racial healing and climate justice. Learn more here!)
Financial barriers sometimes make it difficult, if not impossible, for BIPOC folks who feel genuinely called to participate in the Fierce Vulnerability Network to actually do so. Collectively, we have the power to address this!
REDISTRIBUTE RESOURCES TO THE BAY AREA FVN INTERNAL REPARATIONS FUND TODAY!
In keeping with the Fierce Vulnerability Network's core aim of making reparations real, the Bay Area FVN Stewardship Circle -- a BIPOC-only leadership council -- is creating this internal reparations fund to offset needs-based costs of BIPOC participants who would otherwise not be able to attend FVN events and offerings. East Point Peace Academy has volunteered to hold the funds, and will distribute them as directed by the Stewardship Circle, based on the needs-based requests they receive from BIPOC participants.
Initially these reparations funds will be made available to BIPOC participants in the Bay Area FVN 6-month cohort program, beginning in September 2022. In addition to that, we anticipate a consistent rhythm of Bay Area FVN trainings, actions, campaigns, and gatherings. An initial pool of $10,000 -- our goal for this 90-day Fundrazr campaign -- will enable us to make such events as accessible to BIPOC participants as possible for the foreseeable future.
This invitation is primarily addressed to white-identifying folks who recognize the moral and practical necessity of offering reparations to those most deeply impacted by the violence of white supremacy. We acknowledge the complexity of our differing/mixed/intersecting racial identities, however, and trust each individual to determine whether they feel called to redistribute some of their resources in this way.
