More than 15 Better Waverly homeowners are in danger of losing their homes due to Baltimore City’s annual Tax Sale. This high number is due to Covid. We're facing an April 30 deadline to help homeowners pay down their debts – or face losing their homes. Help is urgently needed by April 25.
Tax Sale is predatory in a neighborhood like ours:
- Long-term homeowners may have most of their wealth in their homes. All that can be lost due to a debt as low as $750.
- If owners don’t have a mortgage, they face tax bills that come as large chunks. This can be unmanageable in this year of coping with the impact of Covid.
- Houses with lower sales values are often over-assessed for taxes. The owners are overpaying compared to residents of wealthier neighborhoods.

Any extra funds will be donated to the Stop Oppressive Seizures Fund, which prevents Tax Sale Foreclosures across the City.
