Jones Community Solutions hasn't added a story.
Hello and thank you for visiting!
My name is Annette Jones. My husband Javan Jones and I are Certified Peer Counselors in King County (Seattle) Washington. We work with community members that have challenges and barriers that disqualify them or exclude them from receiving traditional kinds of social services. Over the past 4 years my husband and I have helped over 2,000 people receive free cell phones. We've also held donation drives, helped operate a drop-in center, helped people with housing and family reunification, and we've been family to many that have no other. We are proud and honored to do the work we do and we are humbled by it's greater spiritual meaning in our life.
Funding for what we do is sporadic at best. We are blessed to have wonderful working relationships with many non-profit organizations in King county but it is usually not enough and falls short of being able to respond in the moment of crisis. As a result a lot of what we do is out of our own pocket as necessary and as we are able. In this new year we are looking to provide more assistance and would like your help to do it.
What do we need funding for? Our clients and all their needs. ~ I am currently working with a couple families facing eviction by the 15th if they do not get rent paid. I am working with the property managers and they are willing to continue to work with us but we gotta give them something.
~ We do work with clients that cannot find employment due to homelessness, felony backgrounds, lack of education and lack of transportation just to name a few challenges.
- We match employers to employees
- We create odd community jobs to provide daily pay
~ We've held clothing, hygiene, sleeping bag and book drives to support both individuals and local organizations.
~ We've provided hospitality and project management services to non-profit organizations
We do many other things as we are able. It is not, however, what we do but how we do it that is the difference. We do work for people living in crisis and that means responding immediately to client needs. An example of this would be giving someone $20 for gas to get to and from work for the next few days. Or, maybe we will pay someone's cell phone bill for a month because they need to be able to communicate with doctors or employers or loved ones. Bus tickets, a trip to the grocery store for just enough to last till the next food bank trip, or buying a change of clothes because the ones they are wearing are soiled and it's all they have.
We do not fix all of their problems. We just try to make their today a bit easier. You can help us do this more often.
Thank you for your time and have a wonderful life!
