Who we are

We're St Aidan's College Boat Club, a diverse range of over 100 men and women from complete novices in their first years to postgraduates that have been rowing here for years. 

What we're doing

Someone made the silly suggestion that we should row ONE MILLION metres (which is really quite a long way). We're aiming to complete the distance between all of the club members on 3 indoor rowing machines non-stop. We'll start on Saturday 12th March at midday, rowing all through the night, and finishing at around 2pm on Sunday 13th (fingers crossed). We'll be subjecting ourselves to the pain in the St Aidan's College JCR so that everyone can come and laugh at what a ludicrous idea it really is, and hopefully donate some money to our cause!

What it's all for

We're splitting the proceeds 50/50 between the Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team and the St Aidan's College Boat Club. The search and rescue team is a charity close to the club's heart as they keep us safe around Durham, particularly on the river, where they've saved numerous lives of people that have fallen into the River Wear. The other half of the money will go towards buying a brand new set of blades to replace well worn equipment and increase our competitive edge at upcoming national level races such as the British University and College Sport Championships and Head of the River to name just a couple. As a college club with limited funding, we rely on the generous support of our alumni, friends and families.

What you can do to help

We need your help to make this a success and make all of those kilometres worth the gruelling effort! There's three things that you can do to help:

1. Donate what you can - we're incredibly grateful for all donations, no matter the size.
2. Spread the word to friends and family - money is by no means everything.
3. Support us at the event - come along and shout some words of encouragement to help us through to a million metres!
