Friends of the Coombe are thrilled to have the support of Paul and Deirdre Grealish. Deirdre is organising an afternoon tea event on the 8th of November in The Earl Inn, Killimordaly in aid of our charity. Their son Michael, born at 27 weeks in Galway and transferred to the Coombe Hospital, spent a significant period of time in our Neonatal Unit. We are delighted to report that he is now happy and healthy! Your support, no matter how small, will help make a difference.
Friends of the Coombe is a registered charity, CHY 18654, established in 1982 to raise funds to assist the development of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital. The Hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive providers of Women & Infant healthcare in Europe.
The Hospitals commitment to a philosophy of care which is family centred is visible in all aspects of the staffs work and right throughout the Hospital. However it is particularly prevalent in our Neonatal Unit and together Friends of the Coombe work to enhance and promote that philosophy of care. Your support for Deirdre will go directly towards helping our most vulnerable and fragile babies just like Michael.
Over 9,000 babies are born annually in the Coombe and 1,000 spend time in the Neonatal Unit. As a national referral centre caring for high risk mothers with complex requirements, we are the largest provider of care for babies born below 1500g. It is an extremely busy environment with a need for constant support from Friends of the Coombe.
There is massive pressure on resources’ and through fundraising alone, we are not in receipt of any grants, we have bought a long list of vital equipment which helps enhance the quality of care provided within the Hospital. Most importantly we are accessible to staff. Where there is a need we respond quickly and that impact can be felt right throughout the Hospital.
