We are both ex-breeding rabbits, who came to the rescue ill and from cramped, inadequate conditions. We are not used to being cared for. We didn’t even have experience of hopping, running, or just being able to clean ourselves before we came here.
Mr Buttons had a large untreated abscess, to which he lost a tooth. The pus was oozing out of his mouth when he arrived. He also had eye infections, snuffles, mites, sore hocks, untreated arthritis, and low self-esteem. He was in dreadful spirits, looking sad and sorry for himself, not having a faintest idea what to do with the space he suddenly had to hop in. With weak muscles and arthritis, he now struggles hopping and is unable to use his hind legs properly. After just 3 sessions of acupuncture, he has shown a remarkable improvement and now urgently needs funds to cover these and subsequent sessions.
Nugget arrived without a tail but with severe cystitis, incontinence, urine burns, fly strike, fur and ear mites, and gender identity issues (being treated as a boy when she was a girl all along), from an out-of-control breeding situation where her health needs were not met. She did not have veterinary help to address the cause of her illness or alleviate her distress. It is almost certain that her missing tail is the cause of many of her ailments which appear to have neurological causes. She had extensive diagnostics which on their own cost about £300. Nugget has now had two acupuncture sessions. After her first session, she expelled a whole load of bladder sludge which saved her having a costly and painful procedure. Acupuncture has been shown successful in cats who have urinary incontinence problems due to neurological damage from tail pull, so there is every reason to hope that Nugget can still be helped and to assume that acupuncture is the way to go. But in order to continue with this treatment, her diagnostics bill needs to be paid as well as her outstanding acupuncture session.
