Our expansion plan includes:
- Add a new art lighting product line: art quality track lighting, framing projectors, monopoints
- Develop a network of independent allied arts businesses for B2B sales and provide the group with information and discounts
- Develop arts focused content (like curated artist interviews and essays on art history and interior design) that not only fosters artist careers but also helps us be part of the “online arts neighborhood”
- Increase awareness of art lighting as a way to promote aesthetically soothing environments in even the most humble homes in an affordable and generative fashion
- Position ourselves in what we see as a huge retro market for modified interiors precipitated by the pandemic. We foresee an opportunity to use artscapes and art lighting to help people meet the new design challenges faced by the need to re-imagine our interior spaces.
Supporters can either donate directly to our campaign (any amount), or they can buy our featured product and enjoy art lighting in their own home while the proceeds of their purchase goes towards our business development.
Why Picture Lights?
Our main products are Picture Lights. Picture lights can be plug-in or direct-wired fixtures that are mounted on the wall or attached to the frames of individual artworks. The idea is to put the light source close to the work of art, using low-wattage lamps. Well-lit artwork enhances your home by creating a sense of intimacy with the artwork.
We’ve Got Your Style:
What’s great about our picture lights is that they can coordinate with your framing and decor; there are many finishes to choose from. You can coordinate styles such as modern, vintage, contemporary, traditional, and eclectic.
We Customize :
We also specialize in customizing lamps by size & finish and we can provide in-depth technical advice on mounting lamps for bookshelves & millwork.
We Go Large :
For specific cases, such as large-scale artworks, we customize large picture lights for illuminating paintings up to 16’ in length (we customize shades up to 130” wide!).

We Preserve & Protect:
Important to remember that UV rays and heat produced by light, especially certain types of light, can be harmful for artwork if used improperly in the long term. The best way to avoid serious damage is to keep a distance between light and artwork. The other way is to use LED lights, they have a lower heating effect and no UV. Keeping the art safe and making it live longer is an important task for every art lover, this is why our goal is to help to select art lighting wisely.
In recent years professionals discovered LED lights. They
generate cool light that sharpens the overall picture and highlights
the main colors. Plus, for galleries, it saves a lot of money on
electricity. The evolution of artificial light provided the desired
flexibility to artists and gallery professionals, and allowed both
of them to highlight every piece of art, simultaneously adding a
style to the interior.
Why do we need your help?
David & Goliath:
Our little company competes against national lighting chains and the mighty clout of their multi-million dollar advertising budgets. Like David & Goliath, we compete against their brute strength by being nimble, knowledgeable, and nice. Our very small staff has extensive product knowledge and we cater to the interesting and thoughtful community that visits our international virtual store. We provide boutique customer service and personalized design suggestions. Instead of selling every type of lighting, we have focused on building an authority site around our high-quality, curated selection of products.
What’s Our Story?
An Internet Original Mom & Pop since 1996:
We love art and we know our business; we started selling on the
internet in the 90’s when the internet was oh so young. We were
determined to create a specialty website to provide a resource of
specialty lighting and accessories for our niche audience of
creative, engaged, intelligent, customers. Our goal was to build a
business we would want to do business with and to treat people the
way we would want to be treated.

We Sell What Our Neighbors Make:
We love that what we sell to the world we find in our own backyard; House of Troy is our neighbor here in Vermont and the fixtures we sell are made locally by Vermont men and women, all hardworking and skilled at many processes of the craft of lamp manufacturing. Selling a locally made product to art lovers all over is like the best of both worlds for us.
Our Belief That Art Will Shape The Future:
Like many small businesses trying to pivot during the Covid 19 pandemic year, we needed to create a response to the business changes precipitated by Covid. Because our business depends on people loving art so much that they want to light it up, we celebrate the artful, human, creative mind. This notion, that art is important to everyone, is what has inspired our recent website redesign.
Perfect Picture Lights’ Pivot:
Our response to that future thinking was to create a “ Virtual Demo Room ” on our website. We worked with our wonderful engineer and a whole team of professionals to build a website that feels like you walked into an art light boutique, so to speak. The idea behind the virtual demo room is that you upload a photo of art in your home and use our virtual tools to see how a picture light will enhance your art in your room.
Money Can’t Get You Love:
Yes, we are merchants and we operate an internet store, but we are also providing some entertainment including essays featuring global art history authors as well as writings by architects and authors on interior design. We are producing demonstration and product videos. But perhaps most adventurously, we are even producing an artist interview show, “Fresh Canvas” with Claudia Perez, our curator. Claudia conducts warm and thoughtful curatorial interviews with award-winning artists. Our first interview is posted here.

Our Future Vision For Artscapes & Art Lighting in Design:
Seeking an upside to the pandemic, we posit the notion that for their safety and the common good, people will be spending far more time in their rooms, and basically more fully inhabiting their homes. This will create a deeper desire for coziness, control, and the use of lighting to help differentiate between disciplined and casual space. Also, almost every aspect of life has developed a video/zoom telecommunication component. As we continue communicating more virtually, it can be presumed that home decor trends will be arching upward, with artscapes and artful lighting presenting a vast new design area to explore.
Wider Cultural Conversations We Want To Be Part Of:
Meanwhile, because of virtual telecommuting and the shift away from urban centers, there are countless buildings and spaces that will need to be repurposed and redesigned. We envision a huge retro market for modified interiors precipitated by the need for usage patterns unforeseen during the building’s construction era. Because of this tectonic shift in space usage, consider a home-as-a-stage-for-virtual-work design. Imagine the power of utilizing art lights and art itself as a great way to create transitions, or changeable formal spaces, or to delineate comfort zones.
