The idea a craft brewery in Williams Lake started for Dave Reedman back in 2012 or so. The community is surrounded by tree clad, trail-laced hillsides and is a natural jumping off point for a multitude of outdoor activities both locally and in the surrounding area. It' s a great place to live and Dave wanted to add some great beer from a local craft brewery to make it better.
Dave started with brewing small batches of beer on the stovetop. This led to a trip to England in 2014 to complete a Diploma in British Brewing Technology. He then took over a room to build a small brewery in the basement of his house. This was followed by many, many brew days and many beers shared with friends. Brewing became a passion and this passion has fuelled the dream of building a craft brewery in Williams Lake. Fox Mountain Brewing Company is this dream coming true.
Fox Mountain Brewing Company is a start-up craft brewery and taproom opening up in early 2020 in Williams Lake, BC. We have been fortunate enough to find a great location at the former Greyhound bus terminal and have been busy converting the space into a modern brewery with a comfortable space for the community to gather and enjoy some great beers and great food. This project has been underway since December 2018 and we are so close we can taste it. The renovation is in full swing and the construction should be complete by the end of the year. The brewhouse and cellaring equipment is on site and is being installed. We are in the process of looking for staff and finalizing our menu. The place is buzzing with activity and we are very excited about it all. We can't wait to bring this to life for the community, but we're hoping for a bit of a push from our local craft beer supporters to get us off to a great start.
Building a brewery is a significant capital investment. Between the equipment, the building lease, the renovations and all the other bits and bobs, we are in to this project for over a million bucks. We've worked hard to make sure that we've got this part covered, but cash is king and we want to build something that the whole community can be proud of when the beer starts flowing come opening day. We're looking for a kick start from the community to help us make a beautiful space and to help us get our feet under us while those first few batches of beer are still fermenting away. All the money that we raise will go towards building a taproom that the community will enjoy for years to come. We are also planning to put together a design for a disc golf course in Boitanio Park that we will present to Williams Lake City Council. We know how generous the good people of Williams Lake can be, so if we exceed our funding goal we will put the rest of the money towards covering the loss of tools and equipment that Foundation Mechanical sustained during the break-in we had in November. They are still out over $20,000.
