Special Needs Poodle Rescue hasn't added a story.
Murphy is a 14 week old Poodle/Golden Retriever mix. He was
surrendered to our rescue on Sunday after multiple grand mal seizures
a day that his owner was unable to find answers for after visits to 2
different vets. At first it appeared that his seizures where
environmental, as they stopped for a couple days. Unfortunately he
had another seizure during the night last night, so now the need for
further testing and a neuro consult has become unavoidable.
So far we already have about $400 in bills into Murphy, and have
an expected $475 more at least ($150 for bile acids test, $125 for
repeated bloodwork, $200 for neuro consult), and that's not counting
the costs of any medications we may need to put him on to control the
seizures. We're waiting to make the decision to put him on
medications until we have the results of the bile acids test so we
know if we're dealing with a liver shunt or something else.
We are setting our goal at $600 for now to allow for the fees we
loose using Fundrazr and allow some extra to cover medications cost.
We may adjust this goal if the neuro ends up recommending we get an
MRI done. MRIs are very expensive, we're probably looking between
$3000 - $5000 for this area. But this little dood is worth it! He is
such a smart, eager to please, happy little puppy!!!! He's just a
baby, and we want to give him every chance possible at a full, happy
life free of suffering.
Donations can also be made directly to our regular vet, North
Ogden Animal Hospital, at 801-782-4401, the account is under Special
Needs Poodle Rescue, or through our PayPal account at PayPal.me/SNPR.
If you would prefer to mail a check to help offset please e-mail us
at SNPR@att.net Donations direct to our vet is our
preference for now, once we know the results of the bile acids test,
if that suggests a shunt, he will need to go to an internal medicine
vet who can do an ultrasound to diagnose what type of shunt we're
dealing with. We may be looking at very expensive surgery or a short
life with careful management and a special diet if the shunt isn't
operable. If it isn't a shunt, a neuro consult will be needed so we
can discuss the best medications and way to proceed with his care.
