Through our Read Green program, and our 1000 Books To A Child Initiative, The Nature Generation is putting Green Earth books onto the shelves of inner-city school libraries and into the hands of underprivileged children in low-income neighborhoods. For many of these children this will be their very first book. And, through our “1,000 Books to a Child” program, our goal is to ensure that every child has a Green Earth Book of their own.

Green Earth books are impactful works of non-fiction and fiction literature that helps educate children and young adults on the importance of preserving natural resources, exploring nature, wetlands, and eco-systems. Through illustrated examples which highlight endangered species and tales of adventures featuring characters with whom children can identify, the wonderful world of nature comes to life and inspires children to take an active role in the care and feeding of their planet. Our Green Earth books teach children the value of preserving natural resources so that they can learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and why it is so important to protect the environment.

Recently, we visited an inner-city school in DC to donate books to their library. We were saddened that the library had very few books on the shelves for children to read. As we handed out Green Earth books to each child in the library, the smiles on their faces were priceless. One little girl looked at me asked "Can I Keep This Book?" The librarian explained to the children that these books are for the library so that all the children can read them. I asked the little girl if she any books at home. She replied “No, my mother do not have money to buy me books.” I told the little girl, this book is yours to keep. And that day every child in the library received one of our Green Earth books to keep. This was the start of our campaign to ensure 1000 books are donated to children living in low-income areas and schools libraries that are desperately in need. Through our Read Green Program and our 1000 Books to a Child initiative, our goal is to ensure that every child has at least one book of their own at home.

With your help, we can make this a reality. No donation is too small, especially when it comes to educating our children and ensuring that they have the necessary reading materials to help them grow into responsible adults.
