How would you like to go to a protest, not interact with government agents and be arrested and sentenced to 14 years in Jail? Just ask Todd Engel and his family, they can tell you of the horrors of a runaway judicial system that must have a head on the wall to justify its actions.

I met Todd Engel in a small, barren, concrete box in the Nevada Southern Detention Center, in November 2017. As a lawyer, representing other political prisoners suffering under a system of justice that bears the full brunt of our government against them, I have met people in some unusual places.

Todd had no idea I was coming, having been the fourth attorney to be a part of his personal ordeal. I had been referred to help him with the upcoming sentencing hearing in December 2017.

After spending nearly three hours with him and discussing the issues and the events of this trial, the unimaginable events that led to his conviction on two of 19 charges, Obstruction, and Interstate Travel I decided I would help.

From Nov 2017 until July 2018, we fought and moved for a new trial, challenge to the convictions and sufficiency of the evidence, being shot down at every turn. On July 26, 2018 the Govt posted its Judgment sending Todd to 14 years in a federal facility.

In addition to this on September 20th 2018, the court charged Todd with 1.6 Million Dollars in restitution.

A notice of appeal has been filed, and preparation is being made to address the injustices suffered by Todd through the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, but support is necessary to vindicate his rights and protect the rights of everyone of us in this country. Because if they can turn an appearance at a protest into a criminal act, then none of us are safe.
