Little Hannah was pulled from the shelter with only $35 in pledges last week.Hannah is only 3-4 years old. After her normal vetting along with treating her pink eye and ear infection from the horrendous amount of hair that was overgrowing on her ...

UPDATE: It turns out that Hannah does NOT have cataracts! She does have some serious stuff going on with her eyes though and will be seeing a specialist for treatment for that. Even better news is that this should only cost around $500-$700 instead of the several thousand dollar cataract surgery!

Here is the report from the vet about Hannah and her eye issues.

Physical exam wnl including ears, eyes, nose, mouth, face, teeth, intraoral, skin, lymph nodes, external genitalia, mammary glands, abdominal palpation, thoracic auscultation, musculoskeletal, and neuromuscular systems except as noted below.

pe wnl except as noted here: pt has marked bilateral conjunctival erythema/vascular injection, slight anisocoria, mild mucoid exudation. pt has uneven alignment of teeth, evidence of prior dental disease but teeth cleaned recently. full exam of mouth is not possible because pt is trying to bite. direct ophthalmoscopy fails to reveal any evidence of cataracts but pt has notable moderate lenticular sclerosis. magnification exam of anterior segment is suggestive of mild iridial atrophy. IOP OS 12 mmHg, OD 18 mmHg. STT OU is > 20 mm. fluorescein is negative both eyes. rule-outs include conjunctivitis (viral, bacterial, allergic, chemical, physical). other causes cannot be ruled out. based on lenticular reflections and degree of sclerosis the age is estimated to be between 8 to 12 years of age, avg 10 yrs.

This also means that Hannah is either a good bit older than myself, the regular vet and the groomer thought she was or means that her eyes have been in bad shape for quite a while for them to appear so old.

Little Hannah was pulled from the shelter with only $35 in pledges last week.Hannah is only 3-4 years old. After her normal vetting along with treating her pink eye and ear infection from the horrendous amount of hair that was overgrowing on her and a desperately needed groom we found out that she has cataracts. In both eyes. She was tested for diabetes and that was negative (good!) but she has a urinary tract infection to go along with everything else.

The cataract surgery looks to be around $3000-$4000 for both eyes. As a new and small rescue we simply do not have the budget for this. So I am asking for help. Please consider donating, even just a dollar or two to help this little girl. She is too young to be faced with being blind soon.
