Hello! We at Oakwood Summer Theatre need your help for our upcoming 35th season!
As Salem County's longest running community theatre we strive year after year to provide the people of Salem County, New Jersey and beyond quality productions. Our mission is to further the advancement of theater in rural South Jersey by fostering, encouraging, and developing a public appreciation of theatre and by providing recreational activities for participants. In the past 34 years over 87,000 people have enjoyed our productions!
This year for our 35th season we will be staging productions of "The Runner Stumbles," "Cinderella," and "Hairspray." Due to a lack of funding we will be receiving this season as well as our commitment towards quality entertainment we are reaching out to you for help.
Each season Oakwood Summer Theatre becomes a gathering for artists and musicians to come together and use each of their individual strengths to create an product that is life-changing for those within the productions and thoroughly entertaining for the thousands that attend over the course of the summer. With opportunities for aspiring actors/actresses from as early as elementary school to retired citizens as well as behind the scenes work, Oakwood Summer Theatre attempts to give all those involved a professional, engaging experience. The experiences that have come as a result of one's individual time at Oakwood Summer Theatre benefit those involved greatly as some of our alumni have gone on to do great things. Whether attending world-renowned schools for their craft or recently starring in Julie Taymor's Off-Broadway production of MidSummer Night's Dream, Oakwood Summer Theatre sets up those involved for success in the future. What's more important however is that once you become a part of Oakwood, whether for a season or for many years, you become a part of a wide array of family. With being a part of Oakwood Summer Theatre one builds lifelong friendships and connections for years to come.
However, with the recent decline in funding for our organization we cannot continue to as successfully create meaningful experiences for our cast and crew as well as the community abroad. As Salem County's longest running community theatre organization we want to be able to continue to thrive so that future generations may experience the joy and "family" of Oakwood for years to come. The average cost for our summer season can be anywhere from $30,000 or more. It may seem like a lot but all this money goes towards obtaining the license/rights to perform the musical, rental space, costumes, sets, staff and more. To help supplement the cost this year and to ensure we are able to continue to provide quality entertainment, we are looking to fundraise $4,000.
The money raised will go towards costumes, sets, and other expenses for each show so that we can give the people of Salem County and beyond an experience just shy of a few yards from Broadway.
