The Catholic Campaign for Human Development revoked $60K supporting the University YMCA's immigrant friendly communities work because we refused to break ties with a statewide coalition endorsing marriage equality. Help make up our budget shortfall!

Mobilizing for equality.

For the past three years, the University YMCA has played a prominent role in mobilizing the community around issues affecting immigrants in Champaign County. But those efforts received a significant setback when the Catholic Campaign for Human Development withdrew its financial support because of the controversy surrounding marriage equality. Committed to continuing its work on immigration, the University Y needs your support  to replace the lost funds.

Paying the price for what's right.

Earlier this fall, as the State of Illinois was moving closer to passing historic legislation supporting marriage equality, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development was demanding that the University YMCA cut ties with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) because that organization endorsed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage. We are proud to report that the University Y didn’t bend to these threats, but it has paid the financial price. And in the end our whole community pays when this important work is stalled.

Join the Committee Concerned For Human Dignity.

We are disappointed by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development's decision to withdraw funding that supports the University Y’s work to create an immigrant friendly community in Champaign County. As individuals concerned with creating a community that welcomes all people, we are establishing a campaign of immigration reform and same-sex marriage supporters to replace the withdrawn funds.
