CorgiPals, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Pals, it's time to introduce our newest Helping Paws client. Grab the tissues, because Winston will steal your heart and your tears! Here is his story in the words of Corgi Mom Laci:
"My roommate and I adopted Winston and his late sister Gypsy in 2010 when they were left abandoned by his owner in my boss's yard by her drunk neighbor. Both Winston, (formerly known as Ein) and his sister were grossly overweight when we took them in. Winston was almost 90 lbs, a hefty size for a Corgi, to be sure. In the beginning, from the moment I first saw his Corgi grin he stole my heart. He and his sister were troubled by some hefty psychological scars.
The first time I gave Gypsy a bath I nearly cried because beneath her fur there were round burn scars all over her. Winston seemed to have a lot of trouble eating in the beginning so I took him to the vet to get checked out. He was healthy but had some bad teeth... 16 bad teeth to be exact. He had to have them all extracted. The doctor there was fantastic, and cut me a very good deal. There were 10 more teeth that were in danger of needing to be removed, but at that time he was okay to keep them. The doctor did diagnose him then with stage 4 periodontal disease. Likely because his previous owner would just leave an open bag of food out for them, and take off for weeks at a time.
We've tried over and over again to keep his teeth healthy with his favorite turkey flavored tooth paste, but it didn't make a dent at all. My roommate and I have gone our separate ways, him with Gypsy, and me with Winston. I met my new fiancee Dan three years ago, and Winston and I and our kitty Wendy moved in with Dan and he has accepted Winston as his own Corgi. Winston and I have worked hard to turn our lives around. I've lost nearly 100 lbs, and now Winston is down to mind boggling 44 lbs. The doctor says we need to get just 6 - 10 more lbs off and then he will be at his goal weight! Right now though, we've had to take a break from our work because he just can't manage right now because he is in so much pain.
Eight of his remaining teeth need to be pulled, the roots are exposed on several of them, causing him a lot of pain. The doctor is able to pull the teeth, however right now my fiancee and I can't afford the surgery. My fiancee was laid off from his job and after a year of endless job searching just started a new one, but right now everything we have is going into our mortgage to try to keep our house.
The vet has estimated the surgery will be around $800 and we just don't have it. I've tried speaking with PetAid, and a number of other resources, but because my boy is older in years (we think he's 12) a lot of places wont offer assistance. The vet says Winston is healthy as a horse other than the teeth. If we could just get those teeth out, he would be a revitalized Corgi! Please help us give our boy a new lease on life!"
As usual, I have created a Fundrazr page for Winston. His goal is set for $880 to cover the $800 estimate from the vet, and the Fundrazr/PayPal fees. Use the share buttons on the right sidebar to spread the word about this sweet senior boy, and let's help Laci get Winston the care he needs!
