FLOOD RESPONSE - DONCASTER 2019
Saturday 9th Nov 2019:
Hello all, I'm Holland from Doncaster Unitarians, and we're opening the church today to help flood victims. This will be today roughly 11am-8pm (times may be updated later) and possibly in the days to come, depending on availability of volunteers.
We will be offering free tea/coffee, use of toilets, and a warm place to hang out for the day, cook food, charge phones, an d use Wi-fi. We can't provide accommodation for the night but will try to signpost to people or services who can.
We need practical support, including:
- VOLUNTEERS! All offers of help very much appreciated.
- OFFERS OF ACCOMMODATION for the night; we can't provide this.
- ITEMS of food, clothing, toiletries, etc. Full list below.
- DONATIONS of money so that we can provide whichever desperately needed items we are short of. The church is a charity itself, so we will also need to cover the extra heating costs. Beyond that, everything will go towards helping flood victims, who will need support long after today.
Helpful items to donate include ready-to-eat or microwavable food, teabags and coffee, pet food, blankets, wellies, socks, hand sanitiser, baby food, hot water bottles, dry shampoo, deodorant, shower gel/shampoo, soap, new flannels/sponges, toilet rolls, sanitary towels and tampons, clothes, phone chargers, pet beds. If anyone can provide info so we can signpost people to further help, please let me know.
I don't have many items to offer on a personal level because my home has been flooded too, so I'm hoping to provide a 'hub' instead where people who want to help and people who need help can come together. This is partly why I need more volunteers, because I need go and sort out my own flooded home at some point!
ALL ARE WELCOME including pets. This is an inclusive church and LGBT+ people are welcome. No-one will try to convert folks, we just want to help. However, people visibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave.
