Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Times is running out for the dogs and cats residing in our shelter, 10 years ago a “no-kill” promise was made to all the animals who stepped through our door and entered our hearts. Today, with the shelter closing in South Orange, that promise is in jeopardy and we have limited time and resources to find a loving place for them to go. As volunteers, and a former resident Mattie, we are hoping that our plea to you will urge you to help us in our quest to save these innocent lives.  Mattie's Friends non profit was started by our former resident of 8 years, who is now in a loving home, and wishes to help her friends left behind.

What our animals need:

We are currently searching for loving homes for many wonderful animals. We also have some animals that are desperately in need of medical care, so they can be healed and place in homes. We have other animals that have been with us for many years and will need some funds for training to help them adjust to being in a home again. We also have some animals that will need to go to a sanctuary because they have been too damaged by humans to be re homed, or like our feral colony, that we have taken care of all these years,  who are now losing their home.

How you can help - -

Our goal is to raise $45,000 with your help. Those donations will be divided among all the animals to cater to their specific needs, as determined by behavioral evaluations, and medical reports. It will be determined that many of our animals will need funding for any of the following:

  1. Sanctuary - Approximately $5,000 per dog and $350-500 per cat.
  2. Adoptive homes (with professional training) – Varied costs beginning at $100 per session. Training plans will be determined for each dog on an individual basis.
  3. Medical care - A few of our residents have medical conditions that need urgent attention. We have a gorgeous Chow who cannot walk and is awaiting an MRI to diagnose his ailment.
  4. Travel costs – We are willing to transport out of state to a qualified family. We recently adopted to a wonderful family in Buffalo NY.
