The villagers of the African Savannas have always cut down trees for firewood.
But about 80% of the populations cut down trees to cook meals for their families.

For the visitors to this page, who are already followers of anaerobic digestion, this is system is simplified without instrumentation and designed to be operated easily by populations in remote regions.

What your kind donation will do:

• Fund the prototype biodigester construction for project work groups, comprised primarily of university scientists. Those units will have instrumentation for the scientists to obtain proof of concept data to present for funding beyond the biodigester construction.
  The biodigesters here in the U.S. can be built for only about $300.
• But as you see above the huge populations burning wood, we need as many project groups simultaneously building, learning, and sharing between groups.
  This is an all-volunteer project. The biodigester has some very unique characteristics that create performance and dependability, but it is not patentable, and clever at best.

Populations increase harvesting firewood, as trees disappear, leaving winds to erode and blow away the top soils and nutrients.

The residents in these wind eroded areas, have difficulty growing the amount and variety of foods they need to support a healthy diet for their families.

African governments have been creating environmental barriers to the wind erosion with ambitious projects, like the Great Green Wall. But until cutting down trees for cooking is drastically reduced, the Savanna's erosion will expand.
While building and introducing millions of family biodigesters seems unrealistic, the same thing was said about personal cell phones and average public ownership!

My name is Steven Bolgiano, and I designed, built, and operate a version of the “Savanna Biodigester,” targeted for use by Savanna families, using food waste, garden waste, and manure, … to provide gas for cooking, and fertilizer to build back soils through composting.

I am donating the design, technical drawings, parts lists, instructions, and consultations to African university faculty, at no cost.

I have formed collaborations with African university scientists, who have formed their own autonomous working groups

The universities are free to profit, publish, or expand on the Savanna Biodigester, as long as they do not claim ownership. And with the assumption that the Project Working Groups would share information with other groups.
