Our Mission

Cambodian American Girls Empowering (CAGE) is a performing arts organization that works with community to create sustainable, courageous, and safe spaces for Cambodian American arts and culture exploration. Our mission is to create pathways for our community to explore our diasporic identities and create affirmative connections between art-making and advocacy/activism.

What We've Done in 10 Years...

• danced with 350+ students
• hosted 5 Cambodian dance recitals

Our most popular program: Khmer Language & Arts Program (KLA).   A collaborative program presented by CAGE and the  Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia .  Khmer Language & Arts Program (KLA) provides weekly classes (October-May) to introduce, teach, and enrich Philadelphia's community through Khmer arts and culture.  KLA offers: Beginner's Cambodian Classical Dance Class, Intermediate Cambodian Classical Dance Class, Advanced Cambodian Classical Dance Class, Language and Cultural Immersion, and more.

Every $30 donation pays for 1 hour of a teaching artist's time. On average, we employ teaching artists for 558 hours a year. Every $50 donation pays for 1 day of rent/utilities for our studio at Bok.  Maintaining and sustaining our own space is vital to building community and identity as an organization. We share our space with fellow creatives and nonprofit organizations. Every $75 donation pays for 1 semester of dance classes for our Khmer Language & Arts students. This includes covering the costs of their program t-shirts, culminating events, project supplies, and new/restored costumes. Every $80 donation pays for 1 new dance crown. Our costumes are older (15+ years old) and need updating. Help us purchase new crowns from Cambodian. Each crown is about $80 (not include shipping/handling). Every $100 donation pays for 1 hour of guest workshop facilitator's time. We have a wide network of Cambodian and Cambodian American arts and cultural bearers across the nation who want to facilitate meaningful workshops in Philadelphia Every $150 donation pays for 1 year of dance classes. Sponsor a Khmer Language & Arts Program students for a whole year of arts, culture, and dance classes with CAGE. Program fees are $150 per student and includes weekly classes for 10 months, program merch, guest speakers, workshops, and more. Every $500 donation pays for update full Cambodian Classical Dance costume for our Professional and Junior Dance Troupe. This includes the purchase of artisan handmade jewelry, veils, and fabric from Cambodia that will help us replace and archive our 20+ year old inventory.
