It took
the former
training manager of Little Ceasars Canada to speak
the truth, but finally someone has been brave enough to say what we've
all known in our hearts for years now - Leduc needs a Cactus
Club Café.
Without an outlet of the flagship destination restaurant in the
Alberta town of 30,000, young go-getters like
33-year-old
Jackie Thomas have little to do aside from
watching
Sex in the City re-runs in her $400,000, 1600-square
foot home with two master bedrooms and a large
backyard (a show that, by the way,
Ms. Thomas
could totally see herself "doing well in!")
Allowing would-be Carrie Bradshaws such as Ms. Thomas to suffer
in a town lacking the amenities to suit her lifestyle (can one even
find a mimosa in Leduc?) is no help to anyone. The situation
was so dire that Ms. Thomas
abandoned her Leduc home, packed up her collection of knit
onesies, and moved back to Toronto (by which I mean Mississauga)
after just three months, at a cost of $12,000.
I ask you: what kind of world do we want to live in?
One where a 33-year-old earning "six figures" would rather
spend $2300/month to rent a one-bedroom condo near a shopping mall in
Toronto (by which I mean Mississauga) than spend a full season in
Leduc? How will Leduc flourish if it can't attract tenacious
go-getters like Ms. Thomas?
The answer, is simple: we must build a Cactus Club Café
in Leduc!
If we build it, they will come, snapping up our suburban homes, and
filling the pizza chain training manager positions left vacant for far
too long, which we all know has undermined the very foundations of
Alberta's economy.
Let's not wait for Big Government to do what needs to be done
here - once we've spent
the $8 million
to build a Cactus Club Café in Leduc, the
"shisha
lounges with friendly 30-year-olds" will surely
follow, as will
Rebel
Nightclub, Sugar Daddy's, and Joey's. Soon Leduc will
be ringing with the sound of
high heels
clacking through the snow on a Tuesday!
Surely that's the Leduc we all want. Help us make that happen
- let's build a Cactus Club Café in Leduc!
But if, for some reason, we fall short of the $8
million mark, let's instead donate whatever we do raise to
the Leduc HUB Association.
