CYCLE4CT - A RIDE TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
All around us we see unprecedented catastrophic results of climate change, disproportionately harming low-income and communities of color. Despite seemingly endless extraction and burning of fossil fuels, our planet remains a beautiful example of resilency but major policy changes and shifts in energy sources are needed for Earth to remain habitable for humans. It becomes painfully clearer every day that we must take immediate steps to address climate change.
CCAG builds and works with strong coalitions of activists and organizations to achieve climate justice. The Cycle4CT Challenge raises funds to strengthen our organizing capacity in Connecticut - and make significant progress towards a Zero Carbon Future. Funds raised through Cycle4CT 2025 helped CCAG turn public pressure into meaningful progress.
With the support of our challengers, we were able to:
- Develop and advance landmark climate insurance legislation. CCAG helped introduce a bill that would place a surcharge on insurance policies covering fossil fuel infrastructure and use the money to strengthen climate resilience and environmental justice. In its first year, the bill earned favorable votes from both the Environment and Appropriations Committees, creating strong momentum for passage next year. We also took the fight directly to fossil fuel insurers. CCAG confronted Travelers at its annual shareholder meeting, challenging the company to stop underwriting and investing in the fossil fuel projects driving climate damage. Insurers should not help create greater climate risks and then leave families, communities, and taxpayers to pay the cost.
- Stand up for ratepayers and clean energy. We organized opposition to gas rate hikes and unnecessary pipeline spending that would raise household bills while locking Connecticut into decades of greater fossil fuel dependence.
- Challenge new methane gas expansion. CCAG and our allies continued building opposition to Project Maple and the Enhancement by Compression proposal, two large pipeline expansions that threaten public health, affected communities, and Connecticut’s ability to meet its climate goals.
- And more!
Cycle4CT 2026 will help power the next stage of this work. We are preparing to bring the climate insurance surcharge legislation back with a stronger coalition and a clearer path to passage. Our goal is to make sure companies profiting from fossil fuel expansion begin paying for the costs they create, while building a dedicated source of funding for flood protection, resilient infrastructure, and climate and environmental justice.
Cycle4CT also supports the year-round work that makes progress possible: research, policy development, public education, testimony, coalition-building, community organizing, and direct action. Whether you're taking the challenge physically, fiscally, or both––you give CCAG the capacity to challenge powerful industries, defend clean energy, and fight for communities facing rising bills, polluted air, flooding, extreme heat, and increasingly severe weather.
Take the challenge physically or fiscally, together we all win!
Physical challenge runs July 10 - 12. Fiscal challenge ends July 26.
