Thanksgiving Fundraiser for the Critters
The rewards of operating an animal sanctuary are endless. The
Critter Place Animal Sanctuary rescues many types of animals from
abuse, neglect and abandonment. In most cases we were the last
resort for the animals. No one else and no other rescue would take
them. For 25 years my wife, Karen and I, rescued over 1,500
animals in 25 years together. Due to the great recession in 2010
we had to go non profit to save the animals in our care. Until
then we rescued them and used our own money which totaled to
almost $330,000 out of our own pockets. We were fortunate. We were
able to continue to take care of all of the animals in our care.
Sadly in 2012 Karen was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian
cancer. After 2 1/2 years of treatment my beloved Karen lost her
battle and passed away on October 2nd, 2014. Her dying wish was
that I do not give up the animals or give up the sanctuary. She
asked me to promise. I have kept my promise.
Yes, running an animal sanctuary is rewarding. However it is a
lot of work. There are also never ending expenses. Housing,
repairs, food, fencing, medical needs, hay, veterinarian expenses,
spaying and neutering and the list goes on and on. The work
involved is very strenuous. From time to time I need to hire help.
I pretty much run the sanctuary by myself. Volunteers are far and
few.
I am honoring Karen's final wish but I need help. Time has
taken its toll and there are so many repairs needing to be done.
We have never taken a salary. All donations go directly to care
for the animals which consists of four horses, 6 variety of
piggies, six dogs, 32 cats, a pigeon and Pot Luck goose. Any
donation is appreciated. Even $1.
