Save-An-Angel animal rescue was notified of a situation with several dogs in desperate need. Upon arriving at the scene, it was clear we needed to act immediately. Over the last two days we have removed 13 dogs from the situation, many of whom are suffering greatly from neglect and abuse. Many of the dogs are requiring urgent emergency care. So far we have lost two precious dogs. One was a mama dog that passed after a blood transfusion and emergency surgery. The other was an innocent puppy; both suffered extreme neglect and suspected abuse. One of the surviving dogs has a broken leg that needs to be amputated. There is one nursing mom with 3 tiny puppies and the rest are a wide range of ages from 3 weeks to seniors.
All of the chihuahua mixes are flea infested, malnourished and full of worms. At the minimum each dog will require basic vetting + spay/neuter; none of the dogs have ever stepped a paw inside the vet. Based on the condition of the dogs we’ve seen so far, some will need intensive ongoing care to fully rehabilitate. So far the vet bills are close to $2.000 and mounting.
Heartworm statuses have not yet been determined. We will have a game plan for every dog early next week. All are going into loving foster homes with incredible volunteers. We believe with enough time, love and veterinary care these dogs will be able to live happy, fulfilling lives!
